Fridays 10PM-12AM EST

The world of music production is one of the fastest growing in the industry. Still, there are very few outlets providing information on how to achieve a lucrative career as a producer. With 13 + years experience, !llmind (Produced records for Kanye West, 50 Cent, Eminem, Common, 2 Chainz, Scarface, Redman and Many More) has assembled a team to help fill that void. How do I get record placements? What is my favorite producer using in the studio? What is publishing and why is it important? What schools cater best to becoming a producer?

The life blood of the music industry is based on knowing the right people. BLAP On The Radio serves to not only answer those questions, but also to provide valuable insight from some of today’s most important power players (Artist Manager, Lawyers, Major Label A&R’s, Beat Brokers, and more)

Music producers rarely get the recognition they deserve. We’re here to analyze the various beat making techniques of some of our favorite producers. From J Dilla’s drum swing, to J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League’s lush musical arrangements, we plan to cover it all. Gear talk, cool production techniques, engineering tips, and bangin’ beats are some of the things you can look forward to with BLAP On The Radio.

5/3 10PM EST BLAP On The Radio will sit with  the iStandard Producers CEOs and team. You’ve definitely heard about the movement or even been to one of their many showcases going on across the US. Now meet the team behind the whole iStandard movement and find out what Beat Camp is all about!

Since DJ Gen.Erik is no longer with us, we will have DJ Unkle Chip of The Elite Camp for the night. Make sure you tune in!

Since 2005, the word iStandard has become synonymous with the world of music production, and it’s easy to see why. Its founders’ vision was to create a platform in which the music producer could step out from behind the boards and display their talents to an audience conducive to enhancing their career. Over the past 8 years, iStandard has showcased thousands of fledgling producers in front of some of the biggest names in music at their live iStandard Producer Showcase in 25+ cities, the Beat Camp program in 4 cities at the SAE Institute, and to millions online via iStandardProducers.com. iStandard, as an entity, is as unique as the creative talents of the producers it represents. Thousands of trendy 18-35 year olds hoping to catch an earful of the next sound attend what can be deemed as lifestyle events, in US cities from New York to Los Angeles and everywhere in between. iStandard embodies powerful informational tools, both online via our exclusive interviews, daily news updates, and technology pieces, as well as live at the iStandard Producer Showcase and our exciting new Beat Camp program.

Unkle Chip

We are geeked to have Unkle Chip rock with us this Blapisode. He’s literally booked all the time but we got lucky this Friday. He’s definitely one of the most consistent DJ’s we go out to check for in NY. If you don’t know who he is, check him out at the More Than Enough Parties thrown at LPR every other Saturday and peep his mixes on his soundcloud.

Unkle Chip is hands down the most aesthetically inclined DJ we’ve listened to. On top of that, he’s a part of NY/NJ’s illest DJ Crew - The Elite Camp. His knowledge of overall music is shown in all of his sets. Unkle Chip bows down to no one and you end up changing your list of favorite songs in the process. Influential indeed by his very nature.

KEV BROWN

American producer/artist hailing from Landover, Maryland, United States. Member of the Washington, DC-based hip hop collective Low Budget.

Kev Brown’s soulful style of production has earned him comparisons to revered producers such as Pete Rock, who incidentally helped Brown’s career gain some momentum after being introduced to him through Grap Luva. (Petes brother) The pair then went on to collaborate on “What Ruling Means”, from Marley Marl’s BBE Beat Generation installment Re-Entry (2001). His appearance alongside Grap Luva left an impression on the underground and he subsequently contributed a track to De La Soul’s AOI: Bionix later that year.

Kev Brown continued to build his resume with contributions to DJ Jazzy Jeff’s “The Magnificent” (2002). As a then-member of Jazzy Jeff’s production-for-hire unit A Touch Of Jazz, Brown contributed no less than 7 tracks to the project yet it wasn’t until his remix of Jay-Z’s The Black Album, aptly titled “The Brown Album” was released in January, 2004 that he began to receive recognition.

As the first producer to do so (to date there are more than 100 submitted remixes of the project), Brown made use of Jay-Z’s starpower and commercial appeal.

After numerous productions and collaborations with artists throughout 2003 and 2004, Brown made his debut in 2005 with “I Do What I Do” through the independent Up Above imprint. The single, “Life’s A Gamble”, followed in early 2006. Among current projects is “Random Joints”(re-released in 2012 with extra bonus material), 2012 also marks the beginning of the Low Budget Records imprint with a partnership with ReDefinition Records.

Ways to Tune In

Anthony Marshall co-founded “LYRICIST LOUNGE” in 1991 at the age of 16. What started out as five MCs hanging out in a rehearsal room soon turned into one of Hip Hop’s most respected brands. Over time, Mr. Marshall would establish the Lyricist Lounge as a blueprint for discovering emerging Hip Hop MCs. Through several Lyricist Lounge branded albums, DVDs, tours, and television opportunities, artists such as Mos Def, Eminem, 50 Cent, Talib Kweli, Slick Rick, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Notorious B.I.G., Q-Tip, Common, The Roots, and the Black Eyed Peas all became a part of its respected history.  In 1999, Mr. Marshall helped to develop a Hip Hop musical/comedy sketch show called “The Lyricist Lounge Show”. The concept was brought to MTV and the show became one of their highest rated programs.

In 2005, Anthony Marshall helped to launch “CURRENT TV” (Al Gore’s TV network) and the company’s VC2 (Viewer Created Content) initiative. His job was to manage a portfolio of film producers who consistently created content for the network.  In 2010, Marshall joined GTM Inc (a Marketing and Advertising company) as an Executive Producer for the company where he helped to produce Web Content for Smirnoff.  Later, he helped to develop a Branded Content reality television series about DJs, also funded by Smirnoff, called MASTER OF THE MIX. The show enjoyed two seasons on both BET and is now returning for a 3rd season on VH1.

Ski Beatz

Ski Beatz is an artist, legendary record producer, musician and MC originally from North Carolina. New York City’s own Hip-Hop aficionado, DJ CLARK KENT, discovered Ski Beatz during a performance with the “BIZZIE BOYS” after opening up for the legendary MC DANA DANE.  Ski Beatz was originally known as “MC WILL-SKI” and was a member of the group “ORIGINAL FLAVOR”, which was the first group, managed by future recording industry executive DAMON DASH. Ski Beatz began to produce music for rap duo, CAMP LO on their first debut album “UPTOWN SATURDAY NIGHT” which peaked at NUMBER 27 on the BILLBOARD 200 CHART and spawned the hit single, “LUCHINI AKA THIS IS IT” reaching the TOP 5 on the HOT RAP SINGLES CHART. Soon after, Damon Dash commissioned Ski Beatz to work on the debut album of another artist on his roster, JAY Z. Jay Z’s album “REASONABLE DOUBT” marked another major production placement in Ski Beatz career. Ski Beatz produced four tracks off the album, including the hit singles “DEAD PRESIDENTS” which was a commercial success as indicated by its RIAA CERTIFICATION as a GOLD SINGLE and “FEELIN’ IT” the fourth single.

That’s only 1% of Ski Beatz’s resume. Tune in and hear what he is up to in 2013, and a more in depth view of his background.
